Types of keyboard repairs

Full keyboard replacement (models that allow it)

Some laptops—especially Lenovo ThinkPad, Dell Latitude, HP ProBook, and premium models—allow you to replace the keyboard directly without affecting the palm rest. This is the cleanest and most recommended repair.

Palmrest replacement with integrated keyboard

Most modern laptops (Lenovo IdeaPad, HP Pavilion, Asus VivoBook, Acer Aspire, etc.) have the keyboard riveted or thermoformed to the palm rest. In these cases, the manufacturer sells the complete assembly, and the entire part is replaced.

Replacement of the riveted keyboard (when no original replacement is available)

When the manufacturer does not offer the original palmrest or it is not available in the country, the alternative repair is carried out:

  • The plastic rivets are removed
  • A compatible generic keyboard is installed.
  • The fixation points are re-thermoformed
  • The team is being reassembled.

It works, but it doesn't look like the original. It's only used when there's no other option.

Backlighting

If the problem is with the keyboard → new keyboard.

If the fault is in the board → the power line is checked.

Is it worth repairing the keyboard?

In most cases, yes: replacing the keyboard or palmrest is cheaper than replacing the entire notebook.

For very inexpensive notebooks, those that are wet or have structural damage, we assess whether repair makes sense before proceeding and always provide diagnosis and cost before any work is done.
